Kopecky & Roberts is located on the square in Historic Washington, Georgia.   The historic building has been the location of a succession of law partnerships since the early 1900's. 
        The firm's roots may be followed back to a law partnership between Frank W. Colley and Judge William Wynne.    

 

 

 

            When Judge Wynne passed away in 1928, Frank Colley's son, Carroll Colley, became his law partner.  After Frank Colley passed away in 1932, Carroll continued the practice, eventually taking on a partner, Wilbur A. Orr, Jr. in 1948.
            Orr, born in Wilkes County, earned an A.B. in Political Science from the University of Georgia in 1943 and J.D. in 1946.   Melvin P. Kopecky joined the firm as Orr's partner in 1966.  Orr & Kopecky remained a partnership until Orr's retirement in 1989.   
        James I. Roberts, with over thirteen years of experience as an attorney in Elberton partnered with Melvin P. Kopecky in 1989 to form Kopecky & Roberts.
         Melvin P. Kopecky retired in January 2006.
